30 mile run

Just over 7000ft of climbing. I didn't really feel good at all until I hit 20, then it just got easier. The purpose of this run was just to see if I'm going to die at Silver Rush off of no run training, this gives me confidence. Legs feel fine, energy great. Running an additional 16 wouldn't have been a push.
Tomorrow I have a phone "consult" with Travis Macy. He's the course record holder at Silver Rush and also a veteran 100 mountain biker... and ridiculously good. I'm also heading to Leadville for the weekend to bike the course (with a past top 10 finisher) and camp. I'm super psyched to pick the brains of a couple of the best in the business!

congratulation on some incredible run. I see that you are keeping records. Have you ever thought about keeping those records online? I created a website call www.jog.org that is perfect for that. Would you care to use it and tell me what you think? If you have questions, please let me know.

There is an iphone app coming out soon. I think you will find it beneficial. Also you can write about running on the website. and share it.. You will have a link such as http://jog.org/author/joghard

Please sign up and see, and give comments about improvement. I would be excited to have you write about your journey as a jogger on the website.

Thanks Steve- keep plugging away! I also believe 100% that weight training and recovery on a bike will allow you to run less BUT make bigger gains. Almost a short cut. If you can only run ~30-40 miles a week then adding in the weight training and bike (for recovery) will allow you to exploit that 30-40 miles more effectively. For Leadville 100 last year I averaged just 51 miles a week in the 18 weeks before the race, but I was strong, durable, and most importantly, not over cooked from flogging myself with huge miles. The same goes for this year. I averaged just 41 miles a week leading up to Mt Evans and finished OK. Get in the weight room! Duncan Callahan, Matt Carpenter, and Paul DeWitt would agree.

See... sandbagger ;)

What took you so long? I've been waiting for that :) But what did you just run for 50k? Like a half hour faster (and longer) than this run?

Dude, your run had 7K climb, mine had like 3K and 6.5K descent. Pretty sure a 4:36 50K at altitude is more impressive...

Lucho - Glad you found some flat roads to run for a change.

kidding.

Nice run!

Mt- Ya right!? I ran down to Walker (which would have been 'flatter') but it was so hot I just did one lap then headed back up. at 8000ft it was maybe 70 degrees and then the regular afternoon thunderstorms moved in and it dropped to ~60... perfect!

Patrick- You're killing the volume man! You'll do well at Silver Rush.

I'm a bit out in no man's land, hoping to freshen up a bit before SR. Last time I ran it we had hail for 20 miles, and I hope it comes again...

Lucho, Thanks for the pep talk. Just sign up for Noble Caynon 50k in Sept. Core work has been a must while I've been recovering. I see the PT today and will start work next week. Oh, Meg says hey!
