Thursday race thoughts and a new IPA

Happy Camper IPA is slowly edging Ranger as my go to IPA. Brewed out of Santa Fe. It's solid. They only use a can which pushes it up in the ranking for me. Similar to Ranger at 6.6% but it's $7.99 a six making it cheaper. Plus they talk about using a pine cone as TP.

But Ranger does have it's own sweeeeet trucker cap so I keep it high on my list.

My legs are worked from the run today. 900 vertical in .75 miles with a 10 pound pack on my back at max effort was sick. I've run that trail 50 times in the last year but never hard or with weight. For my Mt Evans prep this will be a staple workout. And since the Leadville 100 run is full I am gunning for the Pikes Peak ascent now. If I don't get in to the Leadville 100 bike lottery then Pikes will be my "A" race for the year... that and a fall marathon as a Master.

This post makes me happy on so many fronts.

But mostly the pine cone because I have done that. Many times.

P-P-A.

I was debating if I'd go down on PPA day but I am pretty sure I will now and I expect to be near the Fred Barr sign yelling.

I'll opt for a rock...

Just picked up a pack o' Upslope IPA (from Boulder), also in cans. Good stuff. Last had it whilst paddling down the Green River last summer. Wild lands and good beer in cans. That makes me happy.

I think PPA suits you well becuase it's a race where I see you outperforming your training!!

Oh yea, and I prefer the tongue of a mountain lion.

Jim- Ya, I like Upslope too.

Rick- That would be a first. Although I think it did that at Leadville. 58 miles a week isn't much for 100.
Ya, I do too but it's pretty tricky getting them to not bat at your tenders like a cat toy.

Question for you and everyone else to chime in on. We'll be in Colorado in a few weeks spending the week skiing. Ranger has become a staple of mine, even here in Texas, but it's one of the few IPAs I can find around here. So, the question is what IPAs should I stock up on while there to bring back home with me. Cans are great since we had a bottle of beer break in the car last year somewhere between Crested Butte and home. All my wife could do was shake her head at me. That was enough!!

I can see it already. You'll be one of those bastards that goes down to do a test run up Pikes just to get a trail and course refresh and does < 3h just in a regular old training run...

Jekirk -

Modus Hoperandi from Ska Brewing Company in Durango, Mojo from Boulder Brewing Company, Upslope IPA from Upslope Brewery in Boulder and Telemark IPA from Backcountry Brewery in Frisco (bottles only).

jekirk- I'm not really the guy to ask as I am also just starting out in learning all the IPAs. I agree with Jim on the Upslope (can) and the Mojo (bottle). I like the Happy Camper too. I usually just peruse the liquor store shelves and pick the cheapest.
