Leadville 100 bike confirmation

I'm in and this is a relief as it firmly decides my focus for the Summer. Silver King 50 mile bike/run on July 16th/ 17th. Then the Leadville 100 bike on August 13th. Can't say that Pikes should part of it, I'll have to think on that one. This is going to be fun.
And this is the sub 9:00 buckle...
Sub 9 hours translates in to:
5:24 pace per mile
11.1111 mph
17.8816 kmh
4.9671 meters/sec
977.7777 feet/minute

9 hrs is child's play. You know that. Done deal.

So are there different buckles like the run race?

Congrats on getting in!

Have you seen that Race Across the Sky movie?

Good luck! I will be sitting in a lawn chair with a beer in my driveway watching you ride by outbound.

Tim- Ehhhh, I'm not going to be so bold. Not sure what I can do exactly so I'll just say I hope you're right.

Gz- Ya, there's a 12 hour and a 9 hour buckle. I've watched Race Across the Sky maybe 10 times. It's awesome. Better than the run movie.

Brandon- Cool! You'll be in full taper for the following weekend.

Sweet dude. I wonder if they know you can run it faster than they can ride.....

Congrats Tim! I'm sure the Bike 100 training will be good for PPA if it can fit in your schedule. After following you up Sanita's (Lucho ran backwards going up talking to me the whole way) I can see how the bike makes you a really strong climber on the run.

Congrats dude! That is on my list of things to do. Maybe next year?

Shaun- I'll probably be running Powerline!

Rick- I was talking about this last night and whether or not I even want to try to balance the two. An OK bike week is 15-20 hours (IMO). I don't want to run Pikes if I can't be completely focused on it. I may just pace/ crew at the Leadville 100 run instead.

Josh- Ya, but you need to move to Colorado first :)

Congrats man!

Thanks Dave. I'll be on a 24 pound carbon full suspension for the race too! Big switch from my 30 pound steel, fully rigid 29er I'm training on.

I agree. You have the ability to go pretty big at PPA, so no sense in doing it if it's not your focus.

Rick- Was that sarcasm? I'm not entirely positive that I have enough competitive desire to go big at any race. The training for Evans and Leadville interests me far more than the race. I got an e-mail from a friend recently and he said that I am so suited for Evans and Pikes that it's scary... but he wouldn't be surprised if on race day I decided to try to break my log flipping record instead. That pretty much sums it up for me. I would be perfectly satisfied to get in to sub 1:40 shape for Evans and then not race. The validation would be from myself. It's finishing workouts day in and day out and being happy at the end of every day, not just that one, that interests me and drives me.

Absolutely no sarcasm at all! If you do decide one day to do PPA I think it should be your ablsolute best effort because of the potential that's there. But if you go 1:40 on Evans everyone's going to want to see what you can do on PPA! You have a little following that wants to see you kill it on some of these courses, but it's very nice to hear that the validation is for yourself - and that's no sarcasm either ;-)

AWESOME!!! stoked for you dude. what bike are you riding?

Jamo- I hate saying that word because it reminds me of shots of Jameson Whiskey. Too many drunk nights!
Lenz is building me a 29er carbon full suspension that weighs 23 pounds. Super sweet beyond my taste. I ride a steel On-One fully rigid 29er BEAST that weighs 32 pounds now! It will be like going from a 73' Pontiac Safari station wagon to a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport... shit that kills!
Leadville has made me feel like I used to back in the day when I raced Ironman. Super psyched and ready to put it on the line.

You could bike leadville under 9 hours with your eyes closed. I did it last year under 10 on about one week of training and your fitness is probably twice mine. I would not be surprised at all to see you under 8 hours. sub 7? OK, you might need to increase the epo for that (just kidding, with your training ethic I honestly wouldn't be surprised by that either). In any case...congrats on getting in! I'm excited for you.

And I agree with you on the value of the training far outweighing the actual race. Getting out, moving and working the body, day in and day out, and just feeling healthy, and alive each day is satisfying enough with no races ever. But I have to admit, that the training wouldn't be quite the same without the impending race to add another cool dimension to it and fuse it with more motivation. It's a good combo, might as well fully enjoy them both in my opinion!
