Sunday

Today... crazy hard day...
Am) Hill fartlek. I shortened this by quite a bit and drilled as many hills as possible in 1:30.

Pm) Double baby jogger. My wife biked and I pushed the jogger. I showed her my favorite running roads which meant we were up over 9000ft in to some of the gnarliest climbs I have for over 2 hours... while pushing a 100 pound stroller. We got 2430 ft of climbing! Pushing 100 pounds up some of these climbs is like doing an anaerobic squat workout in the gym but you have this amazing core stabilization thing happening. I have to push 100 pounds with my arms yet the stabilization is coming from my feet meaning all that torque is traveling through my midsection. And the downhills are evil! I've never felt anything like it. Now I can see why Matt Carpenter said one of his secrets to winning Leadville was using his baby jogger. It's like a full body weight session. This run was close in difficulty to last week's 29 mile run.

I looked back at one of my 140 mile weeks from a couple years ago which I completed in 15:30 total time (that's 6:38 average pace for the week... I was doing 4 days of intensity and I finished that week with a 26 mile run in 2:46) and this week crushed it with just under 19 hours total time. The main difference is altitude and terrain. Much of this week was run on nothing but steep hills. Interesting to see the possible 'conversion' happening.

Is she single?

Yes. She's anxious to meet you.

Sounds like your wife is no joke on a mountain bike?

Rick- My wife is tougher than I am for sure! She was a professional ballet dancer and used to put in 6-8 hours a day of work. She's also danced through stress fractures in her feet. I took a month off with a little bruise on my foot.

Sweet. Now that you're running ultras she'll have competition for gnarliest toes in the family.

Tim- I would have to disagree. Toe nail health is dependent on proper shoe size choices. I've never lost a single toe nail because I wear shoes that are a 1/2 to a full size larger than my foot.
