I carry my camera on almost every ride/ run because of days like today... this is a pond a couple miles behind our house.

Good friends of mine who live in Boulder have been hoping to see a moose. I'll let them know no need to go far!
Great find on your ride today!

Interestingly, moose were pretty much non-existant in CO until the late 1970s (they were hunted out) when the CO Dept. of Wildlife started reintroducing them. They're still at it, releasing some onto the Grand Mesa in 2005.

They are definitely expanding their range...started in North Park, moved in RMNP and are now making their way into some parts o' the foothills.

Great that you stumbled across one.

Cool Jim, thanks for the wild life lesson! I didn't realize they were "endangered" here in Colorado at one time.

A half lifetime ago (give or take) I worked on a flight line in Maine on B-52 aircraft. Moose would periodically amble out onto the runway. There were occasions where take offs were delayed because the moose would be out eating some grass at the edge of the runway and they really didn't give a shit that a BUFF was reving all 8 of its engines for a mission. Good stuff.

Moana saw that picture and I said, "Do you know what that is?" Her first guess was goat, but then she said, "Moose?" Pretty good for a Hawaii girl! :)

SWAMP DONKEY! For the best numbers of Moose near the Front Range, check out the west side of the Indian Peaks. Lone Eagle area is loaded with 'em. One of the few huntable populations in CO.
