Wednesday race thoughts.

I drove up to Gap Road (a flattish section at 9200ft altitude) and ran a few repeats between 1k and 200m to try to get my flat lander legs under me for Saturday's 5k at Camp Eden. Mr Roche has been on fire. There's little  no chance of me matching his speed so I'll have to be the wily old guy and hope for a mistake.
Then I biked for a little over 2 hours with 3 X 1000ft climbs at a tempo effort, not hard but not spinning either. It's getting super hard to elevate my HR to 150-160 on the bike so I'm just riding them by feel.

And the entrants list for Evans is up. Again, little to no chance I can match Aish or Delaney (or Zach Crandall?) in a head to head battle... I'll wait to see what carnage there is after Summit Lake and try to pick it up. I think I have to bet on altitude on race day and hope it hurts them much less than me?

Raced sailboats tonight. Heavy winds and heavy crew members made up for sloppy foredeck work...fast tacked into a first for our class, top 5 overall. Which for a bathtub with sails...

I have visions of you and dave crossing the finish line together this weekend, arm in arm, pulling a sleigh of toys for disadvantaged children...while setting an AR.

Or maybe that's just someting I saw tattooed on a girl's lower back...

Run your own race and don't worry about people who wear g-strings underneath their running shorts like Aish. You do have an advantage with altitude and hills.

Matt Carpenter is going to be 50 not too long from now, and quite a lot of younger guys with speed have lined up next to him over the years knowing they could dispatch him too.

Nice. I'm the bathtub with sails on Saturday. I need a good tack.
That would be an... interesting tattoo.

Thanks Brett- ya, I'll race my own race and see what happens. I have strengths (my strength) that others don't have. Plus I know that balance point on intensity at altitude very well. I'm in no way discounting myself.
Matt C is going to be 50!? Damn. That guy is incredible.

Carpenter is 46, but turns 47 in late July.

That's pretty far from 50.

Ok, he's not THAT incredible then. Ha! Just kidding.

At the young age of 43, Matt won the Mt. Evans race in 1:37. (1:37!!!)

Later that summer (in bad conditions), at the age of 44 Matt won the Pikes Peak Marathon in 3:36 (with a 2:11 ascent). That was one of the fastest times ever (up and/or down).

He is a crazy 'old man'. :)

You are going down!

You is what I call my self-esteem. I bought 8 pints of Haagen-Daaz and mixed it with 8 pints of scotch, for post-race.

I haven't gone down since my time at Folsom in 93'... and I'll be doing the 8 pints of scotch (minus the 8 pints of Haagen-Daaz) PRE-race.

Yes, Lucho crushes me frequently.

I remember a run we did a few months ago where I was getting killed trying to hang with you.
