Monday 10 miles sub 7 pace with 2000+ft of climbing and I need stitches

Hands down the best run I've ever had up here. 10 miles with 2030ft of vertical in 1:08:43 (6:52 pace). I had originally only planned on time trialing my 2.5 mile/ 900ft vertical climb and on the way to the hill I felt sick good, fast from the door and effortless on the climbs. I killed my old best on Mount Shimley.
I turned around and immediately face planted and landed on a rather sharp large rock which kicked my elbow's ass. So I time trialed home... what else ya gonna do? Blood was pouring down my arm and splattering everywhere.

Here's a pic. If you're squeamish don't go further... it's deeper than it looks and you can see the bone when I bend my elbow. Unfortunately our co-pay for ER visits is a little over my current checking account balance.

Go to the hospital dude! No messing around with this. That is nasty and will infect if you try to stitch up yourself. Go now!

I've irrigated it and scrubbed the dirt out. I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow to see my doctor. It will cost me about $450 less than going to the ER tonight. After cleaning it out I see it's quite a bit worse than I thought. Not much to stitch to though, it turned all the skin to hamburger.

Okay- maybe no ER (I agree with you there- will pay a ton of money and sit for hours before they get you back to see you), but get to a doc- first thing tomorrow, asap, PRIORITY. Yikes. You are tough.

Man, I hope you're OK.

Seriously, don't wait until tomorrow, for a wound like that, it is essential that you get there hours ago (my wife is a nurse).

mmm, hamburger.

Maybe its functional. Can you store your keys in it?

Damie- Where I live it wasn't about toughness, just no other options. I saw one car on the entire run. Sitting bleeding on a mountain top in backwoods National Park would only attract mountain lions. They can smell weakness.

Jeff- ya... but what about that run huh? Solid.
I think I broke the tip of my elbow (olecranon fossa) so the ER price just jumped to a mortgage payment with X-rays. Can't do it.

P.- Timburger. Or elbow sausage.

Brandon- I put my i-pod shuffle in the hole but the cord was swinging all over the place plus the bone was hitting the buttons and messing up my song list. I think a gel would fit though.

Can you please send this to Obama? I don't think the hole in bin Laden is this bad.

See if you can get payment terms of 180 days or something. At the rate our government is borrowing money, a thousand dollars will only be worth a couple hundred by the end of the summer.

All kidding aside, I hope nothing gets infected and it heals up quickly for you.

I hope you were wearing a white shirt. I love tie dye.

Brett- I've passed on the ER for much worse than this and ended up OK. I don't want to sound cavalier, I won't risk my health. But ya, I'm not at the ER now because even with our good health insurance I can't justify going. And if it were one of my kids? Money would be the last thing on my mind and we would be in the ER immediately. Funniest thing ever when I walked in the door, Ben my 4 year old, said to me "Daddy, you gotta stop falling down!" How true is that? What a simple solution. Funny a 4 year old could probably run the country... common sense.

Jim- All black unfortunately! I love tie dye too.

And I'm thinking... man, good thing you're not a triathlete anymore b/c aero bars would really not be comfortable for a while. Yikes. Hope it doesn't get infected.

I never thought of it that way. Mountain lions never cross my mind....I guess yesterday was as good of time as any to haul ass down the mountain. Okay- it is Tues morning...you better be on your way to get it treated.

Of course we need to see a pic today to see how screwed up this is.

Sorry that the falling disease bit you. I had no idea it was contagious.

Ohhhhhhh... you left a mountain lion a bit of a snack out there it appears.. Can we see your stitches? And what is up with health insurance now? The co-pays are outta control. If you need an MRI, $50 now. :-(
Hope you are up and moving without a lot of pain. Wait.. Tim loves pain. :-)

I see what you're doing here. You're trying to have your arm rot off so you weigh less/can run faster.

It's a bold move, but it just might work.
