Log flipping video.

Here's a short video of 'log flipping', my latest addition to my strength routine. Throwing in a couple of these during a fast and hard circuit is brutal. Going from 20 swings with a sledgehammer straight to this is downright evil. IE: fun! The more I think about it this log has to be well over 200#. Hard to say.

Brett- It's awesome up here right now... just harsh enough to make things interesting.

GZ- That's so my style, wouldn't you agree? Laying in another guy's sweat in a heated gym ain't.

Brad- You'll need one of those logs come January...

you too Zane~

Interesting. I was just talking to our high school football coach, located deep in the midwest farm belt. It was his observation that back in "the day", football players who's strength regimen was only farm chores (lifting bales, digging out tractors, shoveling manure, etc.) had a noticably lower injury rate than the presnt day weight-lifing machines that inhabit the team today. Yeah, they have show-boat bicepts now, but they just don't seem to have the functional strength as the old timers. Or so he said...

The Sisyphus workout - love it.

Sue- So you are saying that I'm an old timer with no show boat biceps!? Just kidding :) There is a huge difference between functional strength like flipping a log, and say bench press. I would have to agree with your football coach and I think a lot of sports strength regimes are heading that way also. I got the log flip idea from tire flips which are a football thing.

Dax- I certainly have the hills! Maybe a large boulder is next for me?

Next Lucho video needs to be you pulling that log in a sled up your powerline climb... just sayin'

Nice Patrick! I hadn't thought of that... with THAT log? Doubtful. It's hard as hell with a shirt.

When I was deciding what to do to get back into shape, I did some research on Hershel Walker. The guy was a Heisman Trophy winner and had never lifted weights. Just a lot of pushups, pull ups and sit ups. Oh, and probably running uphill with a log like the one Lucho is flipping here chained to his waist ;)

His development was so complete the Coaches at Georgia and in the NFL never forced him to touch weights. Now he's doing MMA and he's got to be almost 50.
