Last night a semi tractor trailer hit the only bridge on the only road up our mountain pass. It was still closed this morning and that would mean a drive to Sanitas and back would be in the 3:00 time frame. Maybe 'someone' is telling me that running a hard Sanitas time trial 4 days before one of the hardest 50 mile races in the country isn't a good idea?
Below are news channel updates on the closure... these are mostly for Brandon so he doesn't think I was wussing out on him!

Yeah, I was just looking at the course details yesterday for Jemez, and I quickly came to the realization that I will not be able to run hard through the week, show up Saturday, race and go home thinking I'll be able to put in serious volume next week.
The course is a monster, and I've already chopped a good 20 miles from this week's M-F schedule. I'm not planning on racing Jemez too hard, but I would like to avoid a suffer-fest and also be able get around in a somewhat respectable time - maybe even with a late kick through the last 10.
That Caballo Mtn spur looks pretty close to Green up the front side: 2 miles 1,840 feet of up. Include getting to the Caballo TH and you've got 4k in 7 miles, and that's with 1k of down thrown in for good measure!
Harry Harcorw had these sage words of advice, "if you find yourself lost, just look for the steepest possible climb and chances are that's the route."
LOL... what have I gotten myself in to!? I have been on the fence about Leadville and it looks like Jemez will tell me exactly where I stand with this whole ultrarunning thing! My only goal is to finish and like you, have a respectable time.
you and wussing out? Seriously . .? have those two words EVER been used together?!
Glock Girl- Not a lot, but yes. I wuss out from time to time for sure.
I was going to get you mentally prepared this morning. Jedi stuff.
Ya, bummed I missed it but it was probably good not to run it hard. That new power line route looks very promising. I ran part of it yesterday but the snow got too deep. It looks like a clear and runnable straight mile at ~30% grade. And it tops out at 10,500ft... good training for Leadville maybe.
I hope you have a great run at jemez. Looks
like hightimes for sure. Fly, lucho!
Hey - good luck! Watch out for that climb to the top of the ski resort, straight up and down! It hits you right after a good hour of downhill and rollers - be ready! Keep the calories and water coming in.
Looking forward to you nailing one of these!
Thanks Matt and FastEd!
