4:00. Average pace 8:34. 5348 ft of ascent with out a single step below 8100ft elevation. Average HR ridiculously low. Very little effort and I should be able to repeat this same run again tomorrow. The weather was perfect, or what others would call severe. Maybe 15 degrees at 9200ft with heavy snow and wind.
My altimeter doesn't have a pause function so it records time from beginning to end. Compared to the GPS I stopped for a total of 48" during this run (to switch camelbaks). Something that I want to focus on at Leadville will be limiting my aid station stops and walking. I also peed 4 times today and never missed a step of running.
TL- my watch has a 4 in front of those numbers :)

That's because I'm faster. I'm going out for 1.1 mile this afternoon.
Ouch.
My ascent for my run would've been zero but I stepped over prairie dogs several times.
Damn good run! That low avg HR is key. Efficiency rules at long distances (really long distances).
Nice work, fellas.
Lucho, peeing without stopping . . .okay. And nice HR.
Thanks Tim. Today was quite easy to the end. I think I'll be able to repeat the same run tomorrow.
Matt- Everything matters. If I pee every 10 miles at Leadville (which is a good thing and something I should be able to accomplish) and I stop every time, that could be ~10:00 lost for no good reason... literally 10:00 pissed away.
I used to play soccer with this Brazilan guy who always had to pee about 30 seconds before kick off. He'd take one knee and pretend to tie his other shoe; in the meantime he'd have his willy hanging out on the "open" side of his shorts letting it go. There are always ways to make it work.
Rick- Yes... I have employed that method of deception many times. At the World Duathlon Championships in Italy a few years back the Euro guys in the elite field were refreshingly matter of fact about peeing on the starting line. We all pretty much just let it fly with out trying to hide the fact. You just had to watch your feet.
That is EXACTLY how I handled relieving myself during the LSAT. NO TIME IS WASTED DURING LOGIC GAMES :)
Seriously though, I can barely do that while cycling, it must be very difficult to relax the area. Also, you put my recent post on pissing myself to shame.
From what I've read, the contents of urine are about the same as sweat. So peeing a little on yourself while running is nothing.
Rick- They certainly taste the same.
Dave- You crack me up. Tied your shoes during LSAT did ya?
Peeing and running is mind over matter really. I never could do it during Ironman on the run. I think not sitting on a bike seat all the time helps.
Rick, a guy kneeling and wagging is a lot different than running and peeing. Hey anything is possible, but I guess all that sex has left my junk f-ed up. Lucho's probably doing 8 min/miles and pissing like a sprinkler. It's like MC's cardiovascular system. Something's not right about Lucho.
And that's why we love him.
Wow..not for the training, because we all know you're more than human. I just love that header pic! Best one yet!
Thanks JP. I like it too.
Matt- LOL. All that sex has left you effed up? Now you're my hero!
This piss thing could be a tactic employed against competitors at the right time.
Nice run. Funny how the Euros have no qualms about peeing in front of a crowd. When I raced the USPRO Championships in Philly, I'll never forget the dudes from Italy hanging it out at 30+ mph in front of 750,000 spectators, or Sean Yates leaning on his bars pissing at 45mph on a bumpy street. Now those were some bike handling skills.... Pissing at Leadville should be comparitively easy.
GZ- I will be drinking extra at Leadville for such a reason.
Jv -I would love to hear more of those stories.
