Friday Rollins Pass

I ran long yesterday and wanted something long again but more interesting today. I drove to Tolland Rd and then to the tunnel... then ran up Rollins Pass Road. I had heard it was runnable right now, the snow is frozen and there are snowmobile tracks. The footing was great (with out traction which wouldn't have mattered later, unless it was snowshoes) until I got up over 10000ft then it just got damn harsh (IE: interesting). On the North side of the mountain the wind was howling and I was stomping over/ through snowdrifts over my head. My altimeter was in my coat pocket and at one point it read 46 degrees.. inside my coat. I would have guessed it well below zero with the wind. On the way down the blizzard hit and was coming in typical Colorado high altitude fashion... quickly. My tracks from the climb up were gone and when I reached my car it was the weather I had hoped for. Not quite a blizzard but close enough. I'm not looking forward to Spring and am hoping for at least 2 more months of snow.

Take it back. Right now.

The average low here in August in 47 degrees. There's not a ton of difference and snow is at least interesting. You'll be running in 100 degrees soon which (IMO) is 10 times more brutal. I won't take it back :)

Awesome! Any animal tracks in the snow? That always adds a little fun to the adventure!

Dave- There were faint tracks but the wind and snow had already covered my own tracks quite a bit. I did see a huge white snowshoe hare though.

Mary- I'm completely acclimated to the cold now so even a 20 degree run is pleasant. I'll definitely enjoy the summer! I'm just loving the snow too right now. Have fun in your heat and humidity :)
