Wednesday 20.5 miles

Here's a picture (last Summer) from a neighbor of ours showing the damage that a black bear can do when it climbs in to a car and the door shuts behind it... This is the 3rd such incident up here.

Bob drove up and we logged a longish 20 miles. I wanted to cut the run short and opted for 20 miles and not the original 25. I felt completely flat and heavy legged. Our average pace was actually solid considering the amount of time we spent running up.

Lots of Leadville talk in regards to strategy. I think we have come to the decision to write 5 strategies on 5 cards and on race morning we each draw a card. Bob and I have different strategies that we favor and ironically on this run I ran his strategy and he ran mine. And no... Bob's strategy isn't to feel like shit. Most of the strategies involve running.
The Garmin read 4000ft of climbing but as I have found out, that is well over what the actual was. As I familiarize myself with the mountains and learn the mileage, and since the Garmin elevation data is off, and as I gravitate away from HR... the Garmin may have seen one of it's last runs with me.

And I'm finding the Craigslist kitten search quite entertaining. Here's one:

CALICO KITTENS!!!!
I have several Calico kittens for sale, if anyone is interested. I have several, about 45 total, and I am not real picky about the price. If these are something you love and would like to improve your collection, please give me a call @ 720-203-6xxx

First off, when I saw this add I wanted to scream 'calico kittens' too! The use of the word 'several' however is a bit understated which makes me nervous about her price which she says is not real picky. She's probably only asking for 'several' dollars each. 45 cats... really? And anyone who collects kittens is creepy.
Of course I think she is talking about ceramic kittens (which the add never states), but that's not very interesting.

Yea Garmin sucks on elevation accuracy.

First off, 45 kittens, Yikes!

Secondly, you gravitating away from HR? Surely a sign of the coming apocalypse.

Brett- I never knew.

Eric- Gravitating away, not quitting it. This is about my 12th or 13th year of training almost exclusively by HR. Time for a change. I'll still use it for tests and an odd run here and there to keep tabs on things.

Eric - note the last 2 rules of Joghard - Heartrate is CRITICAL and don't forget also that it doesn't matter.

That sums it up...

stay away from those poor kittens...if she has 45 of them they probably are in-bred and diseased...no Piney or Rudy in that batch...

That Craigslist ad must have been for Calico Critters, a kids toy collectible thing. If not, beware o' the Cat Lady!

How 'bout a link to the mapmyrun route you're using. Sounds like a good one.

Wende- Definitely. I would als0 be very interested in staying away from any lady or guy who has 45 cats.

Jim- Ya. She's talking about some kind of figurine or toy. That's not as funny though.
In the post I added a button link to mapmyrun.com and the route we ran (we cut off the last 5 miles though).

Am I the only one who got stuck staring at the picture? Is it b/c I a from the northeast and the rest of your readers aren't?
Sweet Jesus that is unbelievable. And they look so cuddly in pictures...

It was probably one of those crazy kittens that tore up your neighbors car! Black bears have nothing on calico kittens!

Wende- That looks like the work of 45 calico kittens.

Mary- We've been warned not to leave food in our car which is why the bears get in to them. They can work the outside door handles and will open the door. But you're not supposed to lock your car door either because they'll do whatever it takes to open the door. The bear that did the damage in that picture I think busted out the window and escaped, but another incident that happened (they think the same bear)couldn't break the window and the owner came out to find the bear in his car. And yet another neighbor had a bear in her kitchen and it wrecked it! Tore the kitchen apart. Good times in the mountains.

That 25-mile loop looks interesting. May try it early Sat. or Sun.

Any interest for a slow sunrise run?

Jim- I really would love to join you! But my wife works Saturday and Sunday of this week and I need to be walking back in the door by ~8:00. I generally try not to run too long or hard when I have my boys so I have energy for them.
