Monday 0 miles

Vasectomy recovery day 3.
I'm ready to go get my axe and chop through the door, but my doctor said not to lift anything for 3 days... maybe tomorrow. I am cheating on this rule because I can't leave my 6 month old son to fend for himself.
I'm going stir crazy. This is the first time ever that I can't run. I've never had anyone tell me "do not run". I've never thought the whole run "streak" thing made any sense and I'm a big believer in taking days off, but there's something about not having the choice that makes it almost unbearable. Even if I could run, maybe I wouldn't, but at least the choice would be mine. I never sit still and the last 3 days are a lifetime record for me. My back hurts from lying flat. With my first ultra race hanging in front of me like a colorful little burro pinata (a burro pinata is my favorite kind) waiting to be swung at, I'm itching to kill it but I have no stick. I can run on Friday if my junk isn't 'draining' or infected... so far so good with only mild swelling and no pain.

Go find those running shoes that you want to throw on so badly. Put one in your hand and using your thumb and 2 other fingers balance one of the shoes on your thumb and fingers. Now, keeping it balanced extend your arm so it's out straight. Time yourself and see how long you can hold it out there. When you're done take the other shoe and put it in the other hand and see if you can beat your time. Then do both at the same time. See how long long you can do this w/o your arm(s) shaking, then time how long you can hold it while you're arm(s) is shaking. I'll race you...

i was wondering how long your doctor told you not to run. i just had my fourth child and i am done. looking to finalize things next month but the whole idea of not running sounds miserable.

Rick- I would last about 3.6 seconds. Although I might still have a little left from swimming 12-18 miles a week.. I'll try it.

Rocky- My understanding is that the risk goes up the less you rest. I feel great and have no pain, but I think if I ran I would bleed (or risk bleeding) and then I would have to rest even more waiting for my grapefruit sized testicles to empty. I would tell you to put in 3 weeks of gigantic mileage and hard workouts (throw everything in there- hill reps, track, tempo, long runs all X 3) then get the vas.. Make it so that at the end of the 3 weeks you're dying to rest.
