Dizzy Fifties 50 mile

A few pics from the morning...

Lincoln logs and Thomas The Tank Engine are perfect together

Sweeeeeeet

We are about the only people in our neighborhood with out dogs. One neighbor has 6. So the deer seem to herd up in our yard. Here's an 8 point buck hanging out.

And the only thing better than an 8 point buck is pair of identical twin 8 point bucks.

I am officially entered in my first ultra. Although the website has me entered in the 50k which I am getting changed. A 50k just won't do. My number is 88. I am always a bit superstitious about my race numbers. I have raced very well at Ironman with the bib #16 which, surprisingly, I have had several times.
In my second Hawaii Ironman I was #44. If we do the Lucho math, 4X4=16. The next year I placed 16th. So now I take it as a good sign when my race number adds up (even if I have to get creative with the math) to 16. Of course when I wore #16 at Kona the following year I placed 25th, which makes sense because 1+6=7 and so does 2+5. This numerology rule however doesn't mean, because I have #88, that I will finish 16th. It just means it's a good sign. Since it's my f'd up superstition I can make the rules.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

:D

8-8 plus 1 Tim equals a win.

That's a good one Hollywood.

Ya, but 8-8 = 0 which would be a DNF! Or how about this...
8 X 8 = 64
6 + 4 = 10
1 + 0 = 1

8 divided by 8 = 1.
Divide and conquer.

I'll go with that one Rick!

All that "math" just gave me a headache.

And math should be in quotations! It's Lucho math... it only makes sense to one guy. Me.

Just curious why you picked Alabama for your first ultra marathon? I'm doing my first 50 mile ultra marathon this weekend. I'm excited but also nervous about the distance.
By the way I think it's awesome that you have finally decided to get into trail running.

My in-laws live in Birmingham. So were doubling up on me racing and taking the kids out to see the Grandparents. Win win.
Good luck with your race!

Cool. The race location, with the inlaws, follows rule #1 of Joghard!

I'm superstitious about my socks. I like your illogical math superstition better.

88 is the coolest number, and not just because it was Dale Jarrett's UPS NASCAR number for a long time. Its the same number forwards, backwards, and upside down.

Brett- You just gave my next header pic! You do more for my blog than I do.

Thanks Kevin!

IMMatron- I read your race report... freaking hilarious! I'll never run behind you after reading that.

I have done all my tri's with a teenage mutant ninja turtle towel next to my bike or in my t2 bag in the case of IM. The one race I did without it, 3 flat tires, Gulf Coast in Panama City. One of my kids stole it a few years back and it is gone. I have not raced a tri since!
