I skipped the race today in favor of taking my family camping in Winter Park for the weekend. I wasn't in the mood to line up against a bunch of runners to compete to see who was faster or tougher. I'm still just trying to be better than the guy I was yesterday. We ended up not camping due to a forecast for snow. My athlete BJ has a condo that he was very generous to let us use so we wussed it out with a roof over our heads and Hernandos pizza, and after the boys fell asleep I stayed up late drinking bourbon and diet caffeine free coke (I don't want to get fat) and watching shitty TV, which is shitty in a good way. Late night Ultimate fighting on SpikeTV and reruns of Seinfeld with a liquor buzz is pretty sweet.
Saturday morning I was up early to run 3 miles up to 18 miles, depending on my mood. I stepped out the door at 9500ft altitude with a bourbon and sleep deprivation hangover in to 37 degrees and a light drizzle of rain. I told my wife I would be back in either 20:00 or 2 hours. Below is a picture of my Garmin data.
There is a 16:39 5k at 9500ft altitude in there.

Late night TV with a buzz is one of the sweet things in life! :) Be carefull, it can be addicting...
I prefer Knob Creek when I go this route.
Dave- Luckily for me we don't have TV at home and I'm usually too tired to stay up later than my kids! But I hear what you're saying. I've been down that road, or rather the frontage road. I have the addictive personality for it.
GZ- Never had Knob Creek but I've heard it's good. I wouldn't want to mix a good liquor with diet Coke anyway. That's a waste of good bourbon.
Brother I see a 16:ZERO9 5k in there if I am reading correctly. Miles 10, 11 and 12?
Nice!
Kevin
Thanks Kevin-
16:09 for 3 miles.
Add 30" to extrapolate a 5k time (3.1 miles). Numbers shnumbers though... it was a great run in a great place, I'll take it.
That's what makes this blog/journey so readable/relatable. We like your style. Nice work!
Oops haha! How'd I miss that? At least I could have had some good bourbon and then I would have had an excuse ;)
Kevin
I needed that! Good stuff. My last bourbon night... I laid in a Chicago hotel room the next day, ALL day, and ordered up room service pints of Ben and Jerry's. Kinda makes my mouth water just thinking of it. In a bad way.
bourbon is hands down my favorite liquor... and i also mix it with diet caffeine free DC... good combo. if i am mixing i go for jim beam... if it's straight I go for makers mark... but knob creek is a good one too..
solid run.
Jameson- Glad to hear I'm not the only diet coke mixer. I thought you would be a Jameson drinker. ha
Thanks!
