Wednesday 0 miles + my marathon goal..

Hectic day! New athletes, I went the doctor, had my first massage and cleaned the bathroom and kitchen.
The massage went well. I squirmed and flinched as Binesh dug in to my knots. My calves are a wreck and my piriformis and glutes are ridiculous tight. They felt like stone. I could tell as he worked that it was a good thing.. I'm actually quite sore right now!
Everyone keeps asking me what I want to run at Austin.. 2:29:59.. there you go.

Yes...I know the feeling well. These things matter though Tim, as I've been telling you for years.

No offense, but you'll tell me you "feel" good to which I inevitably think, but "feelings" mean nothing. KNOWING that all systems (not just your cardiovascular system) are a go---now THAT'S a good feeling. If you're going to invest all this time and energy into being a top-notch masters runner (as you have been and as you will be in a few years time), you best take care of yourself en route. And just because your bombproof now doesn't mean you'll be in two or three years. You can be, though, if you use a little of your coaching income to invest back into yourself. You'll be happier if you do, by knowing you're doing everything you can be, and it'll reflect back to the rest of us who follow your progression.

Binesh knows his stuff too, so let him advise you just how you "feel". As for me, I feel thrashed after climbing with Angela all day; that much I KNOW.

Incidentally, a short swim (flop) or spin will get the blood moving and help to remove some of those nasty metabolic "toxins" after the massage (and massage actually does more harm than good initially).

You're not my dad!! Or, wait... are you? I only got the massage because of you.. it took 7 years of you nagging me ;)
I feel good for this race because I know that I prepared well... I actually feel quite crappy but I'm not concerned... you're right in that "feelings" mean nothing!

wow... a day off from running and massage? Are you getting soft? J/K... It's not like I need to tell that Chuckie V knows what he's talking about. I have been getting regular massages for the past 1.5 years and can't believe the difference it has made with my recovery... and as a plus for people like me who hate taking days off if a schedule a massage for early on a rest dat the last thing I feel like doing is working out... forced downtime.

Tim, did you get a deep tissue massage? Michael and Mom have both had them and it nearly killed them! Michael was in pain for a few days and Mom said she'd never get another massage again! But in your case, it was probably just what you needed...
