12k mountain race this summer and baking a cake next week

The Scartop Mountain race is back this year. July 4th. I run part of this course maybe 4-5 times a week and this is pretty much in my neighborhood. There's a pancake feed and parade afterward and I could very easily be persuaded in to having a barbecue at my house afterward. People can park at my house and we can warm-up and cool-down from there. I'm particularly excited because the dream crusher will be here. David is an awesome kid (I can say that because I'm old enough to be his father) and he's stupid fast and fit so I don't expect to defend my title but it will be fun to duke it out for a mile or two with him. The course is mostly dirt roads with over 1000ft of climbing and starts at 8000ft altitude and it's fast if you're strong. Challenging but not brutal. At a couple points you have views of the Continental Divide.

And in a couple of weeks I get to make another cake. Oliver turns 2 so I'm baking a cake in the shape of his two favorite things in the world, a teddy bear and a blanket. This will be my hardest cake by far. I want it to be a ~10" high sitting teddy bear so I need to make it vertical and it's going to be cuddling a blanket. Should be fun!

3 wishes from a North Carolinian with the upper body of a 13 year old girl:

1. You are in the middle of a bike focus on July 4th. Possibly riding the Tour de France.

2. You are particularly sensitive to the sound of my breathing on the first big climb, which will be comparable to a water buffalo giving birth to a horrifying large pineapple.

3. You cannot run fast when dealing with the scent of an environmental lawyer-hippie who replaced pachouli with his own urine...because it's natural, man.

Seriously though, you're awesome, and I can't wait for the mutual dream-crushing on the 4th. Your cakes are so freaking cool too, super excited to see pics. Hope everything with the family is perfect!

I had some smart-alecky comments, but I'm not even going to try to compete with Dave, the only runner sponsored by Mad Magazine.
