The toughest person I know...

is my wife. Yesterday she broke her wrist on a mountain bike ride and finished the ride. Reluctant to admit it was serious she wanted to take the kids to the pool and then grocery shop. After the pool her wrist was starting to really throb so we decided to go to the hospital where she got x-rays and then a cast.
Doctor: "I can prescribe you some Vicodin".
My wife: "No thanks, I'm OK".

This morning she went for a run.

My new strategy for Leadville is to run it like a girl... my wife!

Hear hear! I'm fairly smitten about the girl who flew by me at mile 35 of my last race, so I hear you brother. Women are tough and should be emulated to make us better men!

I'll draw the line at dressing like one though.

Agreed! On all that.

Anyone who has seen their wife give birth knows who is tougher. Nuff said.

In this spirit, I vote for eradicating the use of the so-called verb "chicked." Doesn't seem to honor the time, effort and talent of runners of the other gender.

Oh nice new look to the blog!
Damn your wife is hard!

Eric- Definitely! What do guys have to go through? It's kind of embarrassing really.

Jim- That is kind of weird ego thing huh? I've been beaten by some guys that was more embarrassing than losing to any girl.

My wife is nails! Thanks chr15.

Just always thought there was nothing wrong with being beaten by a well-trained, hard-running woman. If a runner of either sex trains harder, longer and better (and many do!), there's no shame in losing to him or her.

Thus, I've always had a negative reaction to people saying they were "chicked," as if there's something wrong being beaten by someone of the opposite sex that is fitter, smarter or more pain-tolerant than you.

Thanks Donna, I couldn't agree more. My sons are lucky too!

Jim- I think it's pure ego that has little rationale.
