Homie (whom I have never met) guessed the peak. I'll give you a pair of running shorts if we ever run together. JP was about 300 meters off the mark with his Thorodin guess. They built the new ranger tower on 10,500 foot Starr Peak which is where these pictures were taken. To the top of Starr is a runnable power line cut that is only .94 miles long and gains 1600feet. That's 1600 feet of gain in .94 miles topping out at 10,500 feet altitude... and as I said, it's runnable. I found my own incline in my back yard. There is already a somewhat substantial trail in place. And at the top are these views.

I'm going to go with Panorama Point in Golden Gate Canyon State Park.
The end of Meyer's Homestead Trail in Walker Ranch.
You still "big picture" tired?
Colorado?
I think you are west of the Front Range, so I am thinking you are somewhere off of Sugarloaf or Magnolia road. Maybe near the Gross Res.
No.
No.
No.
I think you are somewhere on the dot trails west of Gross Rez and east of Ned. I have been there before just not sure the name and I don't have my maps with me at work.
Twin Sisters Peak maybe?
Bear Mountain?
Nice guess TrailRat but too far North.
Trudginalong- #7 and #8 are pictures OF Bear Mountain :)
Somewhere really nice, CO.
Must then be Betasso Park? Eldora in the background? That's all I know NW of Bear and I don't know that area well at all...
Betasso Park is WAY Norther...
Claus! You are correct! But I am also looking for the name of the peak~
Cheers!
Last guess, if I was to far north then I would have to say Scarr Top Mountain.
Trailrat- Not with that view of Eldora... I live about 1/2 mile from Scarr Top Mt though.
Bald Mountain
I don't know CO that well...are you nearby the Eldorado Mountain Resort...like Challenge Mountain?
Brett- Pics #1 and #6 are of Eldora Ski resort...
Shaun- Nope. Not close. When I said this was nearly a 360 view... the part that I couldn't get (because of trees) would have been of Bald Mt.
Ok, maybe not my last guess. Now I am really wondering.
Crescent Mountain?
The power lines give it away. It's the mountain that you can easily see from your neighborhood. About 6 months ago you bushwacked to the top and even did a little vidoe of the climb. You have ambitions of creating your own "Incline" following the power lines to the top. All that said, I can't remember the name of the mountain, but it does go over 10,000'.
Its a yet to be named peak. Trick question.
Rick- Nice memory... alas you're off by quite a few clicks.. in picture #5 through the trees on the right you can see the mountain you are describing. But I am 100% positive that YOU above anyone else should be able to guess this one because you have seen this mountain. But you don't know the name of it unless your memory is very sharp...
Trailrat- Nope. Keep going!
coal creek canyon park.
Brett- Nope. It's named.
Tim- Did you make that up? CCCP?
Blue?
I need some damn sunglasses! mine exploded in the last 50k accident.
scar top mtn.
I don't think I made up the other!
Thorodin Mtn by the fire tower. I can see Eldora crearly to the NW.
Tim- Scarr Top Mt is a mountain is just above Coal Creek Canyon Park, which I haven't run in yet.
JP- Nope. There's not a ranger tower on Thorodin... keep going though.
Trailrat- Blue Mountain? That's out by the town of Dinosaur.
You right! It burned down in 1976. I was looking at an old topo.
Does your old topo say where they built the new ranger tower? Hint hint.
Starr Peak
BINGO!
tremont.
Homie got it right with Starr Peak... which is only about 300 meters from Thorodin! You were SO close!
Damn you, Homie!
I knew it was right around there by triangulating off Eldora and Bear!
Totally not surprised the Homie got it as he has climbed everything in the area.
Hated to do that, JP, since you did all the work pinpointing the location. Your guess and Lucho's hints made it too easy.
There is some sweet running up in the woods around Starr. There are two access routes, one a jeep road that is ~1.5 miles with 1100 feet of climbing and then the power line which is right behind my house. To get there I follow nice single track for a couple of miles then hit the power line which was amazingly runnable. I was shocked. It's a straight shot up but it's obvious that animals or people have been using it. At a few points it turns in to natural stone stairs similar to Sanitas. .94 miles with 1600+ ft though makes it much harder than Sanitas! And it tops out at 10,500 feet altitude. I'm hooked.
Looking at a USGS topo, I just triagulated line of sight off Eldora and Bear. It could have only been one of three peaks. Thorodin, Tremont or Starr. I could see in a pic that there was construction of some sort on top and the first topo I found had the old fire station on Thorodin! I thought that was it! Surveying for my Dad's enginerring firm in college and being able to read a topo map ALMOST paid off! And... I'll bet Homie's been up all three!
JP- It's not super clear, but in picture #5 is line of sight to North Table Mountain in Golden which may have sealed the deal on Starr?
Someone (Nick Clark I think?) claimed that "runnable" means at most 1100' vert per mile. After that, he hikes.
This is freakishly steep... tho perhaps not quite as steep as the incline? (2000' in a mile for that monster)
John- I suspect Nick is just being modest. That guy can run up a wall! But, I think Sanitas is runnable and when we did the time trial on Green I only hiked maybe 10" of the whole thing. But I am much slower (and uncomfortable) than when I run. I see some guys that hike faster than they run when it gets to a certain %.
Cheers
Have you ever seen the video of MC running, not jogging, up The Incline?!
JP- MC's FKT on The Incline is definitely putting out a huge effort.
Lucho -- On Green, are you running Amphitheater? I hiked that thing the other day and it's way too steep to consider running (for me).
When you're trying to PR on Green, do you hold back on the steep and push the flats/downs? Or push the steep and recover on the flats/downs?
J.P. -- I'd love to see MC on the incline.. is the video still around somewhere?
That guy is like 120lbs with a 92 VO2max. Godlike!
John- The time trial that we ran a month ago was on Amp and I won in ~32:58. Only walked maybe 10 seconds of it. I pushed hard from the start and tried to recover on the flats. If you try to recover on the steep sections it won't work. You also have to consider where time is gained/ lost the most... on the steep sections.
