Saturday 17 miles

am) 13 miles. Avg HR 138.
Jogged 6.5 miles to Gross Reservoir. Then ran a 3 mile climb at HR 150-165. Jogged home.
On the way to the reservoir, heading down a beautiful and pristine dirt road, I saw that someone had thrown a ton of garbage down the embankment on the side of the road. It continued for about a quarter mile. It looks like they emptied a truck load. So I climbed down and dug through the crap until I found a bank statement for Scott Schram. Home address, bank account number and telephone number. I won't do anything stupid... but I will be fu*king with the guy. If the trash wasn't 50ft down a cliff I would deliver it back to him. Ideas anyone?

pm) 4 miles jogging. No watch or HR.

I think I would take pictures of it and you could possible turn him in. I know some states/cities/area will do just what you did and prosecute or ticket the offenders.

You could gather several pieces of the trash with the pictures and mail some of it back to him. Enclose a letter saying that if he doesn't pick it up you will turn him in. Phuck it, too much trouble, just turn him in.

If you saw the old 90's flick Hackers, that has some great ideas. Place some "personals" from him in maybe Westword or Craigslist

Turn him in for littering. Take pics of it for documentation. There has to be some kind of fine for littering I would think. Then I'd call the local Sheriff and see if they take that sort of thing seriously. You could always call him and let him know you found his garbage--see if he has a legit explaination, which I doubt. If he give you any lip, chances are good he will, we'll have to re-group and come up with Plan B.

Hi! I have been following your blog for a year or so, it's very inspirational to a competitive runner of less than a year...

As to the trash guy, why don't you direct authorities to his information, I am sure they would love to hear about it! What a disgrace, I used to ski Colorado for years and I absolutely despise trashy people (pun intended) like this, as that area is genuinely beautiful!

I like J Rubin's suggestion best, but I can't be viscous when I have a family. I would think a Craiglist post might border on a crime? That would be damn fun though.

I called the Jefferson County PD and reported it. It's State Park land and the lady I spoke to said they do take it very seriously. I gave them his name and address. I would imagine/ hope the fine could be quite large. What a bummer to see! And what a dumbass... doing that and leaving a bank statement in with the garbage.

Thanks for the good word Keith. It is just heaven to me and I love where I live. To see this kind of lack of respect saddens me. Did you ever ski Eldora? We live just below there.
Cheers

I think the fine in Missouri is $500 for littering. This sounds like it goes beyond that and is more like illegal dumping or something. I'm glad they take it seriously--I cannot stand to see crap that people have just tossed along the road.

You could steal his identity....

wende- I already used his bank acct number for auto payments on my telephone, internet, trash, health insurance, water, electric, gas, mortgage, and my weekly spa treatments (which I'm starting next week).

Justin Mock said...

What spa treatments are you going with? Upper lip wax?

Lucho said...

Justin- I am going to start wearing the tiny split side euro running shorts so I will go with a bikini/ butt wax. I can't do the upper lip... I may want another sweet stache soon. Maybe armpits? What do you get?

Justin Mock said...

You can trim the arm pits yourself with clippers to get them to a manageable level - you want to leave a little bit at least to avoid looking too girly. Really everything you can do yourself except for the butt and back. If you want to get the biggest bang for your buck at the spa then, butt and back are probably the way to go.

You're going to take the whole "Skins" thing to another level now.

Ha! That was a good one. Clippers are the bets bang for your buck. I haven't paid for a hair cut in a over a decade.

I was running a trail Friday and saw a piece of trash and thought, I should start running with a trash bag and make a f'ing difference around here. When I got home I read this post. He deserves a very very serious penalty. And we all, like you, need to start taking notice of this shit, even the smaller more "innocent" littering.

Now my mind is racing. There's a guy on the East Coast who has a pretty solid trash enterprise going, tied to running. Company called ATAYNE. Sells clothing made out of trash?

I don't see anything on the west coast but I'm sure there is. Yeah, I want to organize a MASSIVE TRASH COLLECTION with running shoes. Since I'm probably losing my job, I'm getting hungry/creative/going crazy.

Cheers.

My recommendations:
* You don't want to mess with someone who is willing to litter a beautiful countryside with their trash. Seriously, you have a wife and kids. I think what you've done already should be more than enough.
* I cannot explain how, but you know, it may not exactly be that guy's trash. Let he and the PD figure it out and it will take care of itself.
