Monday 4 miles.

Total recovery day. Jogged super easy for 4 miles first thing in the morning, then all day my diet was focused on recovery nutrition. I'm ready for a solid week again.

Lucho, What is your recovery nutrition? Thanks.

Immediately after my long run yesterday I drank a fifth of Old Granddad and smoked a pack of Camel non filters. Today was scotch and crack. I feel great. ha
Yesterday I wore my full Skins with compression socks under them and ate mostly carbohydrate with little protein to replenish glycogen.
Today was mega B vitamin supplement twice. Mostly protein all day. A 1:30 nap with my son. A gazillion gallons of water. Massage several times through out the day with the Stick plus Skins compression tights and I kept my legs hot to help keep blood moving.
I try to do something similar to this after all my hard runs but I get lazy about it. Yesterday was particularly hard because it was hard/long at the end of a long week so I wanted to geek out about it today. It is seriously effective to be this diligent and do the little things. Recovery is sped up a ton (Vitamin B's with protein are super helpful). With Ironman I did this every day, but it was my job. Now I have a toddler and a 3 month old plus house work and my coaching job, kind of tough to stay on top of it.
I once won $20 on a bet that I couldn't smoke a pack of Camel non filters in 1 hour. Tough and incredibly dumb.

Josh- I hope you got to enjoy a cocktail after LP on Sunday? I miss that race. After Kona it was one of my favorite Ironmans. It sort of felt like Colorado to me. Plus I always seemed to have a good day there.

Its kind of funny. I went to go grocery shopping today and was excited to pick up some "crap" food that I normally wouldn't eat but it just didn't seem fun. I will definitely have a couple more beers than normal (normal being zero to one) but I enjoy eating well and feeling great. Go figure. I think this next 3-4wks of recovery will be harder than my hard training weeks.

And regarding Lake Placid, if I didn't live in Madison I would schedule that race every year. Holy crap was that fun...until the last 10-12mi. I will definitely be revisisting that one.

I think there are indulgent foods that aren't crap. Extra, extra, extra organic peanut or almond butter (just eat it with a spoon from the tub). Or a fatty steak. Cheese. Good chocolate. Recovery days are always tough, that's why so few people actually do it right! Tim DeBoom used to have epic recovery breaks each year and would really kick back. Golf, surf, race cars... he did it right. Stay active and just have fun!
