But from what I have been able to understand, in order to replace one pound of body weight lost through dehydration (because our bodies aren't perfectly efficient) it can take 20-24oz to replace the full pound that was lost. I was following the guidelines from the Gatorade Institute.
www.latriathlon.com/gatorade.html
So I guess I didn't make my point correctly. Thanks for the heads up!Luchohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07992289866901355978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5857054182085881319.post-72011472751040544032008-07-02T12:22:00.000-06:002008-07-02T12:22:00.000-06:001 pound of weight loss = 16 ounces of fluid.1 pound of weight loss = 16 ounces of fluid.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5857054182085881319.post-10912367723539459012008-06-26T15:50:00.000-06:002008-06-26T15:50:00.000-06:00Ward- The speed at which you drink water (and the ...Ward- The speed at which you drink water (and the temp) can greatly affect gastric emptying also. When you chug water your stomach empties quicker.. also if the water is colder.
Another thought- or bodies are not efficient enough to completely absorb all water. So if you do get dehydrated it may take several DAYS of diligent hydration to catch up. Part of the reason I prescribe 1 liter of water before and after a run is that we as athletes tend to be chronically dehydrated. Clear urine doesn't always signal that our cells are completely hydrated. That just means you drank enough to pee clear.. but it's certainly a good start.Luchohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07992289866901355978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5857054182085881319.post-29560881403045802282008-06-26T13:55:00.000-06:002008-06-26T13:55:00.000-06:00As I was around mile 5 of a 6 mile run this aftern...As I was around mile 5 of a 6 mile run this afternoon in 85 degree heat and 75% humidity, my shorts looked like I just jumped out of the pool. My shoes were sloshing around from the sweat that dripped down my legs.. my thought's went back to this post and I wished I had hydrated better before I took off. I struggled keeping pace the last mile, but made it without passing out ;-) I think I drank almost a gallon of water while I sat there trying to recover.Wardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15971812138516137612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5857054182085881319.post-71704077158870399572008-06-26T12:41:00.000-06:002008-06-26T12:41:00.000-06:00i couldn't agree more with the water thing! it is ...i couldn't agree more with the water thing! it is really hard to get enough and i never would have thought that i needed so much.

i have never drank so much water in a race as in CdA and it was relatively cool as well but i do think it was necessary to 'help' digestion and to move stuff from my gut. as a result, i wasn't bloated on the run and had no GI issues....kerriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01225551240470421477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5857054182085881319.post-67993110134394365442008-06-26T09:18:00.000-06:002008-06-26T09:18:00.000-06:00Awesome GZ- you took a HUGE step in the right dire...Awesome GZ- you took a HUGE step in the right direction by getting the CB!
Yeah- when Alan gets excited though you end up PR-ing in the 5k! He's still so smooth and effortless at 5:30 pace. Not even sweating.Luchohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07992289866901355978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5857054182085881319.post-46981694479487822262008-06-26T09:13:00.000-06:002008-06-26T09:13:00.000-06:00Awesome post Lucho (a standard for you). FWIW, it says the weight of thing is only 5.5 pounds WHEN FULL. Hardly worth moaning about.

It cracked me up to read that the pace was increasing with AC getting excited. Glad to see that happens to the best of us ... typically it happens with my running buddies when we talk politics.GZhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12623054918799881730noreply@blogger.com
